Melaka: The Melaka government is continuing its efforts to empower the development of sports for all segments of society, especially persons with disabilities, through a total allocation of RM90,000 this year. State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Committee chairman Datuk V.P. Shanmugam announced the allocation under the ‘Perhebat OKU (Disabled) 2025’ programme, which will support seven key initiatives aimed at the development and organisation of sports programmes for the disabled sports community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the seven initiatives include the Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) New Talent Programme with an allocation of RM14,500, the Sports Tournament Participation Programme receiving RM11,900, and the Melaka Para SUKMA Contingent Training Centre Programme with RM30,000. Additionally, the Disabled Sports Carnival Organisation is allocated RM8,600, the Special Olympics Programme (Athletics) RM5,000, the Melaka Para SUKMA Contingent Camp Organisation RM15,000, and the Melaka (Tenpin Bowling) Hearing Impaired Sports Programme RM5,000.
Datuk V.P. Shanmugam also mentioned that the Melaka Chief Minister’s Cup veterans football championships will feature 12 teams, comprising players aged 40 and above.
