Melaka Customs Seize RM7.3 Million Worth Of Smuggled Cigarettes

Melaka: The Melaka branch of the Customs Department seized 850 boxes of cigarettes worth RM7.3 million, including duties and taxes, from a container at West Port, Klang, on Oct 31. Deputy director Bakri Abd Rahman stated that during the inspection at 12.05 pm, more than 9.7 million sticks of contraband cigarettes were discovered in the 850 boxes, which were declared as furniture parts. The estimated value of the cigarettes, excluding duties and taxes, is RM783,520.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. Deputy Director Bakri Abd Rahman emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating smuggling activities and urged individuals with relevant information to contact the Customs toll-free line at 1-800-88-8855 or reach out to the nearest Customs office in any state.
