Kuala lumpur: The Melaka State Government has assured residents that the safety of raw water sources and treated supplies remains a priority after suspected human remains were discovered in the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka State Secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh stated that current quality monitoring has detected no parameter breaches, ensuring the treated water remains safe for consumption. "The state government understands the public's concern, especially since the discovery site is part of the catchment area and source for Melaka's water supply," she explained in a statement.

Salhah emphasized that water undergoes a stringent treatment process before distribution to consumers, with quality monitored in line with established standards. The state government, in collaboration with relevant agencies, will enhance water quality monitoring and inspections in the affected area, including sampling and testing.

"The state government will continue to cooperate with the police and relevant technical agencies to ensure every aspect of the discovery receives appropriate attention within their jurisdictions," Salhah added.

She clarified that the discovery of suspected human remains at the dam reserve should not be perceived as contamination or a threat to the water supply's safety. Conclusions must be drawn based on results from monitoring, sampling, and technical evaluations by the authorities.

Salhah advised the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information about water safety, the victim's identity, or the incident's cause. "The state government gives an assurance that the safety of water sources and the people's interests will always be prioritised, and a precautionary approach will continue to ensure public confidence in the water supply's safety," she affirmed.
