ALOR GAJAH: Melaka has been granted an additional RM6 million by the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry to address the persistent flooding issues within the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency, as announced by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the funds will be directed toward implementing various flood mitigation projects in designated red zones. During a recent visit by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Minister Ab Rauf highlighted the recurrent flooding challenges faced by residents, particularly in the Masjid Tanah Ria area, which experiences flooding up to four times annually.

The announcement followed a Flood Hotspots Town Hall Session in Masjid Tanah, attended by officials including the State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin. Ab Rauf noted that other areas identified as
flood hotspots include Kampung Sungai Siput and Kampung Sungai Jernih.

He emphasized that the town hall session aimed to collect feedback from residents to develop practical solutions within the allocated budget. It was also indicated that similar sessions would be conducted progressively to tackle flooding issues across other parliamentary constituencies in the state.

The Chief Minister stated that the specifics of the flood mitigation projects are expected to be finalized within the next two weeks. These projects will involve collaboration among various agencies, with coordination by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, covering areas such as Kuala Linggi, Taboh Naning, Tanjung Bidara, Lendu, and Ayer Limau.
