Kuala Lumpur: This Ramadan holds special meaning for Muhammad Faisal Hilmi Hasin, a man with Down syndrome, as he finally received his replacement MyKad through the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (MEKAR) outreach programme today. The 25-year-old from Kampung Mak Kemas received the identification document from National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Badrul Hisham Alias, who personally delivered it to his home.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Terengganu NRD stated that the MEKAR team had facilitated Muhammad Faisal’s application to ensure he could obtain his MyKad despite facing multiple chronic illnesses. The department also presented a food aid box to his family, demonstrating the government’s commitment to helping vulnerable communities.
MEKAR is an initiative that reaches out to persons with disabilities (PwD), senior citizens, bedridden patients, and those in remote areas to provide identification documents. “This proactive effort ensures eligible Malaysians have valid identification to access government assistance and services,” the NRD said in a statement.
