Medical Assistant Drowns at Chemerong Waterfall

Al Muktafi Billah Shah:A 25-year-old medical assistant died after reportedly drowning while swimming at Chemerong Waterfall.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim, Mohd Ikmal Awid, was stationed at Kemaman Hospital and was found drowned at the scene at noon. The Al Muktafi Billah Shah Fire and Rescue Station received a report of the incident at 1146 am, but by the time firefighters arrived, the victim had already been located by his friends.

The operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Kama Suhaimi Abdullah, stated that Mohd Ikmal Awid, originally from Kota Belud, Sabah, was swimming with six friends when he and another friend were swept away by currents. While his friend was successfully rescued by others in the group, Mohd Ikmal Awid could not be saved.

His friends made another dive approximately 15 minutes later and found him at noon. A medical officer from the Ministry of Health pronounced him dead before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
