Kuala lumpur: The media can play an important role in strengthening the spirit of nationalism among Malaysians, which serves as a foundation for nation-building, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said. He emphasized that the role of the media is crucial in ensuring that society continues to appreciate the value of patriotism and understands the shared responsibility of safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled highlighted that the media can help nurture the spirit of nationalism, which is vital as a foundation for national defence. This statement was made during the Defence Minister's iftar with media practitioners, where various key figures were present, including Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Chief of Defence Force Gen Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman, Army Chief Gen Datuk Azhan Md Othman, Navy Chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain, and Air Force Chief Gen Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris.

Additionally, Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Bernama News Service Executive Editor Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa were in attendance. Mohamed Khaled took the opportunity to commend media practitioners for their continued cooperation in covering defence and national security matters.

He highlighted the importance of vigilance amid the current geopolitical situation, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He stressed that security and defence are not solely the responsibility of the armed forces but require the involvement and contribution of all Malaysians.
