Temerloh: A mechanic was killed after he was struck by a lorry while checking a punctured tyre on a trailer at KM119.5 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) heading west in Temerloh today. Temerloh police chief ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron confirmed that the noon incident resulted in the 48-year-old man dying at the scene.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, initial investigations revealed that the trailer had stopped in the emergency lane due to a punctured rear tyre. The victim was present at the location to check and replace the tyre when the tragic accident occurred. "While the victim was checking the tyre, a lorry travelling in the same direction grazed the trailer and struck the victim, who was sitting on the road," ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron stated in a statement today.
Following the incident, the victim's body was transported to Temerloh Hospital for a post-mortem, which is scheduled for tomorrow. The drivers of both the lorry, aged 36, and the trailer, aged 35, were unharmed in the incident.
The authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. The investigation aims to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident and to hold accountable those responsible for the fatality.
