MCMC To Swiftly Carry Out PM’s Directive To Strengthen Country’s Data Security – Fahmi

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will immediately execute Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to bolster the nation’s data security through the Sovereign AI Cloud policy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil indicated that this initiative will be pursued with guidance from the National Security Council (MKN), the Digital Ministry, and the Digital Department to ensure enhanced control and management of the country’s strategic data. This move is aligned with policy shifts in several countries, such as the United States, and aims to fortify the data security ecosystem, including classified information, in compliance with the Official Secrets Act.

Minister Fahmi conveyed this information to reporters following the Ministerial Forum: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence On The Future Workforce, an event held in conjunction with the Young Future Leaders Summit (iFuture) 2025, which was also attended by Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo. He emphasized that the Sovereign AI Cloud will serve as a crucial pillar in protecting government data and sensitive information from cyber threats, ensuring the sovereignty of the country’s digital governance.

In addition, addressing the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) request for the MCMC to remove video clips related to a gang rape case involving students at a school in Melaka that recently went viral on social media, Fahmi stated that the MCMC will issue an official statement on the matter. He also urged the public to exercise caution when sharing content on digital platforms concerning the incident.

Fahmi stressed the importance of being careful, highlighting that if any content breaches laws such as the Child Act, the Communications and Multimedia Act, or the Penal Code, legal actions can be taken against those who disseminate it. Earlier, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek mentioned that the initiative to remove the video aims to prevent its further dissemination.
