Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been instructed to launch a thorough investigation into the conduct of an Astro radio station’s staff who were observed mocking a religious ceremony and sharing it on social media platforms earlier today. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has mandated that Astro and the radio station’s management be summoned to the MCMC headquarters for a comprehensive explanation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi Fadzil emphasized that the investigation aims to ensure appropriate action can be taken in accordance with existing regulations and laws. The Communications Ministry had earlier received complaints from multiple parties concerning the behavior of the radio station’s employees.
The incident gained traction on social media when a presenter from one of Astro’s stations was seen ridiculing a religious ceremony. Subsequently, three radio presenters issued apologies for their actions, acknowledging that they had offended the sensitivities of the people in the country.
