MCMC, Police, and Meta Launch Forensic Investigation into Offensive Post Against Sultan of Selangor

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collaborating with Meta and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to conduct a forensic investigation into a social media post that features an image insulting the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. This investigation follows the questioning of an individual by the MCMC who denied uploading the controversial content, which is believed to contain sensitive elements related to royalty, religion, and race.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the need for this probe, highlighting concerns about potential fake accounts or provocateurs responsible for creating and disseminating such content. These actions are suspected to incite public unrest and unjustly target individuals. Fahmi, serving as the MADANI Government spokesman, shared these insights during a press conference following the global supply crisis briefing and post-Cabinet meeting.

The authorities have not dismissed the speculation that fake accounts might be used to circulate content linked to sensitive topics involving royalty, religion, and race. The PDRM and MCMC are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds. Earlier this week, the MCMC recorded the statement of an individual thought to manage the Facebook page "HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre," which is allegedly linked to the edited image that disparages the Sultan of Selangor.
