MCMC Pledges Effective Implementation of Budget 2027 Digital Initiatives

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is dedicated to ensuring the effective implementation of initiatives announced under Budget 2027, aiming to deliver tangible benefits to the people, industry, and the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC has expressed confidence that these initiatives will drive digital economic development and strengthen Malaysia's status as a competitive digital nation. Among the key initiatives is a RM5 billion allocation for the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), which aims to expand high-quality Internet coverage in rural and remote areas, including Orang Asli villages. This allocation also improves connectivity along 7,000 kilometers of roads and highways, as well as 1,700 kilometers of rail routes nationwide.

Additionally, RM1 billion has been allocated to fortify the digital healthcare ecosystem via the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity initiative. This initiative will enhance digital infrastructure and connectivity in healthcare, supporting the expansion of the Electronic Medical Record system, telehealth services, and the use of drones for medicine delivery, improving healthcare access in rural and remote regions.

A further RM142 million is designated to strengthen the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) as a digital community hub. This will involve digital skills and artificial intelligence (AI) training to support local economic development and entrepreneurship. The development of the MADANI Submarine Cable System is also planned to boost network capacity and resilience between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, promoting inclusive and sustainable digital economic growth.

In education, Wi-Fi provision at all public higher education institutions will expand Internet access for students while fostering digital learning and talent development. Efforts to enhance national cybersecurity will focus on developing a Sovereign AI Cloud, ensuring data sovereignty, and strengthening the resilience of the digital ecosystem.

The MCMC will continue intensifying the Safe Internet Campaign in schools nationwide and combat digital fraud. Measures have already blocked over 5.7 billion scam-related calls and SMS messages.
