Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has confirmed receiving a complaint over alleged 3R (race, religion, and royalty) content insulting Islam that was posted on Facebook, and is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. In a statement today, MCMC stated it would not compromise on any misuse of communication platforms that violates the law.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the commission is working closely with the police and is prepared to provide technical assistance and digital forensic expertise, if required, to support the ongoing investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

MCMC emphasized that the dissemination of such content is viewed seriously as it has the potential to incite hatred, undermine social unity, and threaten racial harmony in the country. The commission also reminded the public to use social media platforms responsibly and ethically, urging users to refrain from uploading, sharing, or disseminating content that is grossly offensive, insulting, or inflammatory, particularly on matters relating to religion.
