Gua musang: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is taking immediate action to resolve the lack of mobile coverage in Kampung Sungai Relai, Gua Musang, after confirming the area has no service.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, following a recent site inspection, MCMC reported that a 76-metre tower exists in the area but is only used for microwave backhaul between two towers and does not provide direct mobile coverage to residents. A cellular quality of service test confirmed the absence of mobile coverage in the village.
In response, the commission has issued a Section 51(2) notice under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 to service providers failing to meet coverage standards in the area. MCMC has also proposed a new tower site under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative to expand and improve connectivity for the local community.
In parallel, discussions are ongoing with telcos to upgrade the existing tower to support 4G coverage via fibre-optic connections, ensuring a more stable and robust network. MCMC stated it will continue to monitor the implementation closely to ensure residents gain access to reliable communication services.
