Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysia Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) today signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 20 local Malaysian associations to explore overseas markets, beginning with Cambodia. MCBA president Datuk Seri Dr Ricky Yaw stated that the one-year renewable MoUs aim to introduce at least 100 Malaysian companies from sectors such as fertilisers, engineering, electrical, and construction into the Cambodian market.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yaw also announced that the Malaysia-Cambodia Investment and Trade Mission 2025 is scheduled to take place from June 26-29 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Speaking at the signing ceremony, he emphasized that the MoUs with 20 associations represent a broader alliance initiative, starting with Cambodia. This marks the launch of their first project in the region.
Yaw highlighted that this alliance is a significant milestone in Malaysia’s economic diplomacy, demonstrating a unified commitment to promoting cross-border trade, investment flow, innovation exchange, and people-to-people cooperation between Malaysia and Cambodia. The strategic partnership aims to become a transformative platform, empowering Malaysian businesses to explore overseas markets while attracting foreign investments and collaborations back to Malaysia. It is expected to catalyse bilateral and multilateral economic growth across various industries.
He further noted that the MCBA will serve as a gateway to unlock regional opportunities, connect industries, and enhance Malaysia’s global economic footprint. Cambodia, he pointed out, offers a promising environment for investment and trade, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), due to its relatively low entry barriers and evolving certification and regulatory requirements.
Yaw elaborated that in Cambodia, companies can be registered with 100 per cent foreign ownership, eliminating the need for a local partner. Businesses can be set up swiftly, which presents key advantages for SMEs looking to enter the market.
