MBSP Issues Stop-work Order On Developer Due To Floods, Mudslide

Seberang perai: The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has ordered a housing project developer to stop work immediately at the site following the flash flood and mudslide incident at Taman Guar Perahu here yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the order to stop work was issued today to the developer of the building project at Lot PT 63 (Lot 3509), Mukim 20 after violations of conditions under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 and the Land Works (Seberang Perai Municipal Council) By-Laws 1992 were found.

The results of the site inspection found that the developer had failed to follow the conditions of the earthworks plan approval, including causing mud water to overflow into adjacent lots, namely Taman Guar Perahu, and failing to provide a properly functioning sedimentation pond.

Additionally, the developer did not construct temporary earth drains and did not provide retaining walls along the boundary of the neighbouring park, according to the statement.

MBSP said it has ordered the developer to submit the latest land clearing mitigation plan for its approval, including proposals to enlarge the sedimentation pond and construct earth drains.

The local authorities also ordered the developer to implement immediate clean-up works on the affected drains, roads and residences, install ‘hoarding’ in areas without retaining walls, and immediately implement the proposed mitigation measures.

In last night’s incident, more than 50 houses in Taman Guar Perahu Indah, Taman Guar Perahu, and Padang Temusu were affected by flash floods, with water and mud entering homes up to a depth of 0.5 metres following over an hour of heavy rain.
