The penang island city council (mbpp) today seized goods from three business premises in jalan macalister here during an enforcement operation targeting businesses run by foreigners. mbpp mayor datuk a. rajendran said the enforcement action was carried out in accordance with section 101(1)(v) of the local government act 1976:aws 1991 and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the latest action was taken following complaints from members of the public and non-governmental organisations over alleged violations of regulations by foreigners operating businesses at the premises. 'MBPP remains firm in taking action against businesses operated by foreigners that violate the law, licence conditions and regulations,' he said when contacted today.

Rajendran further explained that MBPP had carried out similar enforcement operations at the same location on November 15 and December 2 last year, as well as February 24 this year, in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the law. He emphasized that MBPP is committed to ensuring compliance with local regulations to maintain order and legality within the business community.

He noted that from 2022 to 2026, MBPP had conducted a total of 703 enforcement operations against businesses operated by foreigners. The operations were distributed as follows: 37 in 2022, 127 in 2023, 212 in 2024, 263 in 2025, and 64 so far this year. These statistics reflect MBPP's ongoing commitment to uphold the law and ensure that all businesses, regardless of ownership, adhere to local regulations.
