George Town: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) seized broadcasting equipment from two unlicensed entertainment outlets in George Town during Ops Hibur early this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation, which commenced at 1 am, was executed by MBPP’s Licensing and Enforcement Departments in collaboration with the Gambling and Vice Prevention Unit (D7) of the Penang Police Contingent.
The MBPP statement revealed that the broadcasting equipment was confiscated because the outlets breached Section 6(1) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998. Additionally, two compounds were issued. One compound was under the council’s Food Establishment By-Laws 1991 for operating a food business without a valid license. The other compound was under the Advertising By-Laws 2000 for displaying unlicensed signage.
