MBOKU Wants To Expand One-Stop Centre For PWD Nationwide

Kota bharu: The Malaysian Disabled Youth Council (MBOKU) intends to expand the establishment of one-stop centres nationwide as the main reference centre to assist and provide exposure on people with disability (PWD). Its president, Ghazali Othman, stated that currently, the one-stop centre specifically for PWD is only available at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian Specialist Hospital.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the existence of the one-stop centre enables the public, government, and private sector employers to obtain information regarding job opportunities, health treatment, and assistance regarding criminal cases involving PWD. Ghazali Othman mentioned that MBOKU will collaborate with state Disabled Councils and relevant ministries to establish one-stop centres nationwide as a medium for disseminating information to the community. He conveyed this after the Disability Training Workshop Programme at Dewan Bakti, Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Kota Bharu.

Ghazali emphasized that the initiative is crucial to ensure that PWD and the public have easy access to referral services, advice, and information regarding their needs and support services nearby. He added that the one-stop centre could also serve employers, youth, or individuals who have had accidents and are certified as PWD, providing them with doctor referrals, treatment information, and suitable job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Ghazali expressed hope that employers in the country would continue to open up job opportunities for PWD graduates after they complete their studies, aligning with their qualifications and capabilities. He acknowledged the challenges OKU graduates face in finding jobs, but stressed that they possess skills and potential that can contribute to the country's economic development if given opportunities in the public and private sectors.
