MBDK, 99 Speedmart Aim To Collect 700 Blood Bags For HTAR

Klang: The Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) has teamed up with 99 Speedmart Retail Holdings Bhd (99 Speedmart) to collect 700 bags of blood to be donated to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang. MBDK Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain stated that the initiative is designed to help the hospital maintain a steady monthly blood supply of 3,000 bags, covering all blood types to meet patient needs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this is the second series of blood donation drives organized by 99 Speedmart, following the success of the previous year’s campaign which exceeded the target of 620 bags. Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain emphasized that the blood supply effort must be ongoing due to the life-saving nature of the mission. Although HTAR currently has a stable blood supply, he noted the importance of continuous donations because each bag expires after 40 days.

The event, which marked the launch of the blood donation campaign, was attended by 99 Speedmart chief operating officer Yong Eng Kwang. Yong mentioned that they expect to reach the target of 700 bags by 3 pm today, with the majority of donors being 99 Speedmart employees based in Klang. He highlighted that 99 Speedmart employs 25,000 people nationwide, with 8,000 stationed around Klang, making the target achievable.

Yong also extended an invitation to the public, particularly Klang residents, to participate in the campaign and donate blood, emphasizing that the campaign is not restricted to 99 Speedmart staff alone.
