Kuala lumpur: Maxis Bhd has deployed Nokia's optical transport technology to enhance its nationwide and cross-border network infrastructure amid surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and enterprise connectivity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maxis announced that its enterprise arm, Maxis Business, has successfully connected more than 50 data centres nationwide. This strategic move strengthens Maxis' position as a digital infrastructure and connectivity partner for Malaysian businesses. The deployment is designed to enhance Maxis' ability to serve enterprise customers, expand its enterprise portfolio, and provide hyperscalers and customers with consistent, high-quality performance.
Maxis highlighted that the deployment leverages Nokia's 1830 PSS and PSE-6 optical technology, capable of delivering up to 1.2 terabits per second of capacity per channel. By employing C+L band technology to expand the transmission spectrum, the carrying capacity of the existing fibre is doubled. Furthermore, Nokia's WaveSuite automation ensures high network resilience.
For enterprise customers, Maxis emphasized that this technology translates into a fast, reliable, and secure network, enabling robust support for mission-critical workloads. It also empowers over-the-top players and hyperscalers to deliver high-capacity 4K media streaming, high-density AI computing, data centre interconnects, and large-scale data backups with low latency.
Maxis' chief enterprise business officer, Prateek Pashine, stated that the collaboration with Nokia fortifies the optical foundation of Maxis' network. This enhancement allows the company to address growing traffic demands while offering a connectivity experience that meets global and domestic standards. Pashine also noted that the collaboration aligns with the government's digital transformation agenda, and Maxis looks forward to future initiatives with Nokia.
Ming Kin Ngiam, Nokia's head of Southeast Asia, commented on the deployment, highlighting that Nokia's next-generation optical networking technology allows service providers like Maxis to construct scalable transport networks. This capability supports the rapid growth of AI, cloud, and enterprise traffic, creating a future-ready optical foundation that connects emerging intelligence within AI, cloud, and enterprise ecosystems.
Maxis concluded by stating that modernizing its optical transport network supports Malaysia's ambition to become a regional digital hub, providing the capacity necessary to power the next generation of digital services.
