Mavenir:ative IMS solution built on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. According to Mavenir in a statement, Telef³nica Germany is the first mobile operator in Europe to deploy the capability with production subscribers in a public cloud.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, The milestone was achieved in the first quarter of 2026 as part of a multi-year transformation project following a contract extension announced in February 2025, under which Mavenir began extensive validation ahead of migrating Telef³nica Germany's 4G/5G voice services to its cloud-native IMS platform. Mavenir Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud, AI and IMS Business Strategy, Brandon Larson said the migration marks an important step in Telef³nica Germany's transition toward cloud-native technologies and network automation.
Meanwhile, Matthias Sauder, who leads Technology and Unified Connectivity at Telef³nica Germany, said the company expects the migration to unlock greater efficiency, innovation and value creation across its operations. Both companies are also developing an automation framework aimed at streamlining operations and accelerating the rollout of new features and updates.
Mavenir expects to migrate the first few million mobile customers to the AWS Cloud-based solution during 2026, with full migration scheduled for next year and all sites to be deployed using automation. Mavenir's cloud-native IMS platform supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Voice over New Radio (VoNR), Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi), and Voice over Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).
Designed to run on any public, private or hybrid cloud, Mavenir IMS services are deployed as stateless, containerised microservices built for fully automated cloud environments, empowering operators to accelerate innovation and introduce new services at scale and at pace.
