KUCHING: The process for Sarawak’s acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd is anticipated to be finalized by the first quarter of 2025, as announced by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The timeline for the takeover has been extended to allow auditors to evaluate the differing asset values presented by the Sarawak government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the valuation process, initially slated to conclude this year, faced delays due to discrepancies in the asset values assessed by both parties. Abang Johari stated that a third-party audit is required to estimate the true value of MASwings’ assets accurately. “Once this process has been completed, the takeover process will be completed, but definitely next year in the first quarter,” he added, speaking to reporters after the ground-breaking ceremony for a medical and commercial building project by the Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society (CHKMUS) Kidney Foundation.

Following the acquisition, Sarawak aims to expand its airline operations to international destinations, including Germany, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. In his earlier remarks, Abang Johari highlighted the state’s ongoing health initiatives, noting that 32 dialysis machines have been distributed across selected centers to support kidney patients. He emphasized the need for public health education to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce kidney disease prevalence.

The Premier expressed hope that the new medical and commercial facility would address the needs of the growing number of kidney patients in the region, underscoring the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
