Mary Kay Hosts STEM Event To Inspire Future Female Scientists

Mary Kay: Mary Kay Inc commemorated the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Feb 11 with an event to inspire future female science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) leaders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, despite women making up only 35 per cent of STEM students globally, as reported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mary Kay aims to encourage more young women to pursue careers in science and technology.

Mary Kay Chief Brand and Scientific Officer, Dr Lucy Gildea, emphasized the importance of empowering and inspiring the next generation of female scientists and innovators, noting that it is crucial to ensure women are more equally represented in the future of STEM. ‘By giving them the tools and knowledge to explore STEM fields, we are nurturing future leaders who will shape the beauty and STEM industries,’ she stated in a statement.

Thirty students from Lewisville High School, Harmon Campus visited Mary Kay’s Richard R. Rogers Manufacturing / research and development (R and D) Center, where they were welcomed by the company’s Vice President of Manufacturing North America, Nichole Jones-Dooley. They toured the cutting-edge facility and explored various STEM career opportunities within the beauty and manufacturing sectors.

The event’s highlight was a hands-on Cosmetic Chemistry class led by Mary Kay Product Formulation Manager, Carissa Dowdy. The students created their own Mary Kay Unlimited Lip Gloss while learning the science behind product formulation.

The day concluded with a lunch where students and Mary Kay STEM professionals discussed career paths and how to support young women in STEM fields. Lewisville Independent School District (LISD), known for its quality education, partnered with Mary Kay to provide students with real-world learning experiences, opening their eyes to new career opportunities.

With a global R and D team that is 63 per cent female, Mary Kay continues to support young women in STEM and is dedicated to enriching their lives through leadership and innovation.
