Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Amateur Radio Transmitters' Society (MARTS) took center stage in representing Malaysia at the Third Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Conference Preparatory Group for WRC-27 (APG27-3) meeting held in Sapporo, Japan. The conference, which started earlier this week, concluded today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the APT-organized conference brought together telecommunications regulators, industry experts, and international organizations. The aim was to develop Asia-Pacific Common Proposals ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27).

MARTS was part of the Malaysian delegation, represented by its president Mohd Aris Bernawi and secretary Sion Chow. Their participation emphasized supporting the International Amateur Radio Union's (IARU) role in safeguarding the amateur radio spectrum.

Mohd Aris highlighted that MARTS' involvement was crucial for ensuring the protection of the Amateur Service and Amateur-Satellite Service from interference by other services. The delegation engaged in various working parties and drafting groups to contribute to proposals for the WRC-27 agenda.

He elaborated on the significance of amateur radio, noting its role in emergency communications, technical innovation, science and engineering education, and international cooperation. Therefore, maintaining the current and future protection of the frequency spectrum allocated for these services is essential.

The IARU continues to defend spectrum allocations through active engagement in regional and international conferences like the APG and WRC. APG27-3 marks the third meeting in a series of regional preparatory sessions leading up to WRC-27, set to occur in 2027 under ITU auspices.

Representing the government, the meeting included officials from the Ministry of Communications, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and stakeholders from telecommunications companies and digital service providers.
