KUALA NERUS: Terengganu FC (TFC) import midfielder Marin Pilj has officially left the team today. This was announced by Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) chief executive officer Mohd Sabri Abas on the club’s official Facebook page, Terengganu FC. Mohd Sabri stated that the club and the Croatian-born player reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract early, in the middle of the 2024/2025 season.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pilj had submitted a request for contract termination by mutual consent, citing personal problems that affected his focus. Initially arriving with the Croatian coaching staff, Pilj struggled to adapt in the Malaysia League after the early termination of the coaching staff’s contracts. Mohd Sabri mentioned that efforts were made to negotiate and provide Pilj with the necessary support to continue until the end of the season, but Pilj could not meet the club’s expectations.

Mohd Sabri further explained that despite the difficult decision, TFCSB chose to release Marin Pi
lj to prevent a negative impact on the club’s progress and image. This marked Pilj’s first journey from Europe to an Asian country, and the absence of his compatriots contributed to his decision to return to his homeland. TFCSB had previously released another foreign player, defender Matthew Steenvorden, due to injury issues.
