MARii Introduces Voluntary NxGV Labelling Scheme to Boost Sustainable Mobility

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) has launched the Voluntary Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) Labelling Scheme, designed to provide a clear and transparent framework for assessing vehicles based on energy efficiency, emissions, safety, connectivity, and intelligent features.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Hanafi Sakri, emphasized that Malaysia’s NxGV Labelling Scheme underscores MITI’s commitment to positioning Malaysia, and ASEAN, at the forefront of the global transition towards sustainable and high-technology mobility. He highlighted that the introduction of the NxGV Labelling Scheme marks a significant advancement in achieving the goals set out in the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020).

The scheme empowers consumers by providing them with the necessary information to make informed choices. It also encourages local manufacturers to innovate, adhere to global standards, and remain competitive on an international scale. Datuk Hanafi Sakri made these remarks during the launch event of the NxGV Labelling Scheme, which also saw the attendance of Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad and MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz.

Azrul Reza, CEO of MARii, stated that the NxGV label serves as a strategic indicator of innovation and sustainability, reflecting ASEAN leadership. Under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, the country aligns its national mobility ambitions with regional priorities to create a shared future where Next Generation Vehicles drive progress across borders. He further explained that the Voluntary NxGV Labelling Scheme is Malaysia’s first framework to evaluate and communicate the capabilities of next-generation vehicles, which include aspects such as energy efficiency, emissions, safety, autonomous features, and connectivity. The framework is not only a national benchmark but also has the potential to serve as a regional model for the ASEAN community, as efforts continue to harmonize standards and support cross-border electric vehicle development.
