Kuala lumpur: The public is encouraged to adopt the term 'deviant culture' instead of the LGBT acronym to prevent normalisation and limit the reach of related social media algorithms. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli emphasized the importance of consistent terminology during her response to Senator Hussin Ismail in the Dewan Negara.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Marhamah highlighted that repeated use of the term 'LGBT' could inadvertently promote the deviant culture through increased visibility in online content. This approach aims to curb indirect promotion by minimizing mentions of LGBT in both speech and writing.
Senator Hussin Ismail raised concerns about monitoring efforts for events with alleged deviant elements, such as 'Glamping with Pride', and sought information on outreach and guidance strategies by authorities. Marhamah confirmed that the event was canceled following its social media circulation and that no authorization was granted by Selangor state authorities.
Marhamah further explained that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), through its research unit, is actively monitoring social media for content associated with deviant culture and teachings. This unit collaborates with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to report and facilitate the removal of content violating legal and religious standards.
