Man Sentenced to Death for Killing and Burning Pregnant Girlfriend

Kuala lumpur: The High Court sentenced Muhammad Fakrul Aiman Sajali, 22, to death by hanging after he pleaded guilty to murdering and burning his pregnant girlfriend in Sabak Bernam two years ago. Judge Norazlin Othman delivered the sentence following his maintained guilty plea.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Fakrul Aiman was charged with the murder of Nur Anisah Abdul Wahab, 21, at Jalan Sungai Limau between the night of May 22 and the morning of May 23, 2023. The charge falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which mandates a death penalty or a prison term of 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 lashes if not sentenced to death.

In her judgment, Judge Norazlin stated that the court accepted the accused’s guilty plea and the prosecution’s evidence. She emphasized that the premeditated nature of the crime, resulting in the loss of two lives, warranted a severe sentence. The victim, who was 18 weeks pregnant, suffered multiple injuries, including burn marks, stab wounds, and a torn abdomen.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Ashiqin Zulkifli presented 112 exhibits, including an ultrasound image and weapons. She highlighted the severity of the crime, stressing its impact on public interest and the need for a lesson against such acts.

In mitigation, lawyer Muhammad Nor Tamrin argued that his client was pressured into taking responsibility for the pregnancy by a third party. He also noted Muhammad Fakrul’s academic achievements and lack of criminal history, urging the court to consider a minimum sentence given the circumstances.
