Kapit: A man, who was reported missing after the boat he was travelling in capsized in Sungai Gaat, Kapit, near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Balang, on Sunday, was found drowned this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre stated that the body of the victim, Spielberg Dylan Sekunyir, 32, was discovered by villagers aiding in the search and rescue (SAR) operation at about 7.10 am. The villagers notified the police and fire department around 8.30 am after finding the victim's body floating along the riverbank, approximately one kilometre from where he was last seen before going missing.
The SAR team departed for the recovery site at 9 am and took about two hours to reach the location by land. They then retrieved the victim's body from the river and transported it to the village jetty. The victim's body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action, with the SAR operation being fully concluded at 3.50 pm today.
The incident occurred at about 6.15 pm last Sunday when the boat, carrying the victim and six other individuals, is believed to have struck a rock in the middle of the river before capsizing.
