Man Held For Threatening Comedian And Family To Be Charged Tomorrow

Kuala Lumpur: The man detained for allegedly threatening a popular comedian and his family will be charged in court tomorrow. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that the 31-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Kuala Lumpur Court in the morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect will face charges under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Razarudin mentioned that the suspect’s remand had been extended by three days, starting from Wednesday to Friday, following the expiration of his initial remand period on Tuesday.

The police apprehended the man last Saturday on suspicion of making death threats against the 54-year-old comedian. These threats reportedly surfaced after the comedian made a public statement concerning the ham issue. The arrest came after a report was filed by the comedian’s manager last Thursday.

Earlier reports indicated that the police had recorded the comedian’s statement regarding a post on his Facebook account about ‘ham’. This post allegedly sparked mockery of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad’s name, leading to the current legal proceedings.
