Langkawi: A man is feared to have drowned after he tried to retrieve a jetski that drifted off in the waters near Langkawi today. Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Fire Supt Mohd Zamri Abdul Ghani stated that they received a call about the incident at 9 pm, and a team of five firefighters from the Persiaran Putra Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location about 22 minutes later.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim, identified as Arash Nashran Abdul Maser, 23, went missing in the sea approximately 100 metres from the beach. He was attempting to retrieve a jetski that had drifted away when strong waves caused him to be thrown into the water. It was reported that he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
Despite efforts by the firefighters and the public conducting preliminary observation work along the shoreline, the victim has yet to be found. The water rescue team plans to commence search and rescue operations tomorrow morning to locate the missing individual.
