Ipoh: An elderly man was killed while his wife was injured after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident with a lorry on Jalan Ipoh-Lumut. The incident occurred near here on Saturday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad stated that the accident happened at around 3 pm. A Hino lorry, driven by a 23-year-old man, suddenly turned left after passing a traffic light. This unexpected maneuver left the motorcyclist, Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, aged 60, unable to avoid colliding with the lorry’s left side.
The impact was fatal for Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, who died at the scene. His wife, Azizah Mat Jamat, aged 61, sustained a fractured left leg and was transported to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) for medical treatment. Abang Zainal Abidin confirmed that the victim’s body was sent to the HRPB Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
Further investigations revealed that the motorcycle involved in the crash did not have a valid road tax, and its insurance had expired. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The lorry driver has been detained to assist with the ongoing investigation.
A 30-second dashcam video related to the incident has gained widespread attention. The footage, which has gone viral since this morning, shows a lorry signalling right but unexpectedly turning left when the traffic light switched to green.
