Sungai ara: A female teacher sustained neck injuries after being slashed by her husband in an incident that also left him critically injured after he slashed himself in Taman Tunas, Sungai Ara, early this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Southwest District Police Chief ACP Sazalee Adam reported that the incident occurred around 6 am and was discovered by the woman’s mother, who heard screams from a room on the upper floor of their two-story terraced house. The mother rushed upstairs and witnessed her son-in-law atop her daughter. She intervened by pulling her daughter off the bed and running out of the room, at which point she saw her son-in-law slashing his own hand and neck.
The 28-year-old victim is in stable condition, while her 30-year-old husband remains in critical condition with severe neck and wrist injuries. Both are receiving treatment at Penang Hospital. Sazalee mentioned that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident. The couple, married for six years with a three-year-old daughter, reportedly had no financial, depression, or third-party issues.
Initial investigations suggest that the husband used a kitchen knife for the attack, which occurred as the victim was preparing for her morning prayers. The police are continuing their investigations, as the husband has no criminal record or history of mental health issues. A review of the couple’s WhatsApp messages revealed no suspicious activity, and they appeared friendly with each other the day before the incident.
Sazalee added that the couple are university graduates from Beijing, China, and are Mandarin language educators at different schools in the district. Police plan to record their statements, and the husband will be detained and remanded to assist with the investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
