Pengkalan Kubor: The Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) successfully intercepted a diesel smuggling operation with the arrest of a man at a petrol station near Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat. The incident occurred as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal fuel trade along the Malaysia-Thailand border.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect was detained around 1 pm by officers from the 8th Battalion engaged in Op Taring Wawasan operations. During the inspection, authorities found over 40 litres of diesel fuel stored in his four-wheel-drive vehicle, raising suspicions of illegal smuggling activities.
Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid stated that the diesel was likely intended for smuggling into Thailand via unauthorized routes. The 43-year-old suspect, a local resident, has been taken into custody, and the confiscated items, including the vehicle, have been valued at approximately RM35,127.50.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which governs the illegal handling of controlled goods. The seized items have been transferred to the Pengkalan Kubor Komtak for further action, ensuring that the necessary legal procedures are followed in addressing this smuggling attempt.
