Seremban: A man has been arrested after he allegedly sprayed an eye irritant at a married couple in front of a restaurant here yesterday. Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman stated that the 50-year-old man was taken into custody in front of his residence at 11.45 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident unfolded when a 49-year-old woman, a trader, and her husband noticed they were being followed by a silver Honda Accord while traveling in their Perodua Bezza around 6 pm. The suspect overtook their vehicle, abruptly blocking them, before exiting his car to provoke the couple and retrieve an item from the rear of his vehicle.
The suspect then allegedly sprayed an eye irritant at the victims, causing irritation and itchiness to their eyes. The couple claimed not to know the man or his motive. Both victims received outpatient treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Police seized a black eye irritant spray labeled 'Police,' which is believed to have been used in the incident. An initial urine screening found the suspect negative for drugs, but checks revealed he had three previous drug-related records.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. Police have applied for a remand order against the suspect at the Seremban Court to facilitate investigations.
