Malaysia’s U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Dreams End with Loss to India

Selayang:Malaysia's ambitions to qualify for the 2027 U-17 Women's Asian Cup final round were dashed following a 4-0 defeat to India in their final Group E match at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, India opened the scoring in the 28th minute with Redima Chingkhamayum's long-range effort. Pritika Barman extended India's lead six minutes into the second half, followed by a third goal from Anushka Kumari three minutes later with a strike from outside the penalty box.

Despite the loss, Malaysian goalkeeper Putri Aina Husna Mohd Subri delivered a commendable performance, making several crucial saves. Malaysia tried to score but couldn't penetrate India's defense, and Nidhi Kumar sealed the victory for India in the 86th minute.

Earlier in the qualifying campaign, Malaysia had secured a 1-0 win against Syria and a 4-0 victory over Iraq. The tournament format allows the eight group winners to qualify for the final tournament in China, joining North Korea, Japan, Australia, and the host nation, China, who have already secured their places.
