The Global Solidarity Flotilla (GSF) Steering Committee has expressed its appreciation to Malaysia and its people for what it described as consistent and principled support for the Palestinian cause, amid continued violence and humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, GSF Steering Committee member, Thiago Avila, stated that the delegation was honoured to be in Malaysia, thanking both the Malaysian people and government for 'always standing on the right side of history' in supporting Palestine. Avila emphasized that Malaysia continues to stand out as a nation refusing to ignore decades of oppression against the Palestinian people, despite a world engulfed by hatred, violence, and instability.
During the GSF 2.0 Roundtable Discussion: Breaking The Siege at Wisma MAPIM, Avila noted that the situation in Palestine had not improved despite claims of a ceasefire, with over 400 Palestinians killed in less than three month s and humanitarian aid falling short of agreed levels. He stressed the importance of a united global movement against the ongoing violations in Palestine, with Malaysia and regional countries playing a crucial role.
Abukesyek, another GSF Steering Committee member, echoed Avila's sentiments, expressing gratitude to Malaysia and several Asian countries for their active participation and steadfast solidarity with Palestine. He described the Palestinian struggle as a moral compass for humanity, underscoring its significance beyond Palestinian borders.
Abukesyek announced plans for the group's next mission, slated for the spring season, with preparations already underway. He highlighted the need for a larger and stronger mobilisation in response to escalating pressure by the Zionist regime, while also indicating that security considerations prevent the disclosure of an exact sailing date.
The upcoming mission aims to include participants from various sectors, such as social movements, organisations, NGOs, and unions, with more than 3,000 participants expected. The mission will encompass both sailing and land-based mobilisation and support, reflecting the GSF's commitment to broader participation in its efforts to support Palestine.
