Kuala Lumpur: The national sepak takraw squad has a bright future after performing excellently by winning two gold and two silver medals at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship which concluded yesterday. The country’s two gold medals came through the regu and quadrant events, while the silver medals were won in the doubles and team regu events.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, President of the Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM), Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, expressed pride in Malaysia’s achievements in the championship, despite the team not ending their 34-year drought in the team regu. He noted that Malaysia’s target of reaching the final in all four events contested in this championship was achieved. “Two gold medals and two silver medals are a proud achievement for all of us,” he stated.
Mohd Sumali highlighted the encouraging performance against Thailand in the team regu final, which promises a bright future for the country’s sepak takraw sport. In his statement, he also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF), the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, and PSM’s strategic partners for their support in making the championship successful.
“This success would not have been achieved without the close cooperation between PSM and ASTAF, sponsors, volunteers, and all parties involved directly or indirectly,” he said. He affirmed PSM’s commitment to continue advancing the sport of sepak takraw both in Malaysia and internationally.
