Malaysia’s Role in Regional Diplomacy Reaffirmed by Prime Minister Anwar

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia remains steadfast in facing global challenges and continues to play a role as the catalyst and leader of regional diplomacy through its ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized Malaysia’s firm stance amidst geopolitical tensions and trade tariffs, highlighting its early actions to protect industry interests and the welfare of its people.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar outlined comprehensive and inclusive strategic measures taken by Malaysia, alongside various parties, to ensure economic stability and competitiveness. He conveyed these sentiments during his congratulatory speech at the 2025 Federal Awards, Medals and Honours conferment ceremony, held in conjunction with the birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at Istana Negara.

The ceremony was attended by key figures including His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, and notable dignitaries such as the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, and Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Prime Minister Anwar also praised this year’s ASEAN Summit, citing it as the best in ASEAN’s history. Under Malaysia’s Chairmanship, the summit successfully brought together significant regions such as the Gulf States, China, and ASEAN to collaboratively address civilisation’s survival and economic growth.

He further highlighted the importance of teamwork demonstrated during the ASEAN Summit and the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA). The Prime Minister commended the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, and the entire government and private sectors for their efforts.

Looking ahead, Anwar expressed confidence that Visit Malaysia 2026 will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and increased employment opportunities. He also underscored the importance of agro-agricultural yields, local products, and Malaysian-made goods in strengthening the country’s economy, urging citizens to support these initiatives as a demonstration of national spirit and self-reliance.
