Osaka: Malaysia's participation in the World Expo 2025 held in Osaka, Kansai, Japan, from April 13 to October 13, attracted significant attention, drawing 1.5 million visitors and generating potential trade and investment valued at RM13 billion. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof attributed this success to the collective spirit, sincerity, and responsibility of all parties involved.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, despite limited preparation time, Malaysia aimed to enhance its global image and dignity through its participation. The expo's theme, 'Designing Future Society for Our Lives,' was mirrored in the design of the Malaysia Pavilion, which featured a bamboo weaving concept inspired by traditional songket weaving under the theme 'Weaving a Future in Harmony.'
The pavilion's unique attractions, such as the 'Flying Roti Canai,' captivated international visitors and were recognized as the most delicious dish at Expo 2025, thus strengthening Malaysia's food diplomacy. The Malaysia Pavilion drew 3.52 million visitors, surpassing the initial expectations and serving as a mini ASEAN hub, promoting regional unity and ASEAN solidarity.
Fadillah, also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, highlighted that Malaysia's involvement resulted in potential trade and investment amounting to RM24.45 billion, exceeding initial goals and opening new avenues for economic growth. This achievement was made possible through a "whole-of-government" approach involving various ministries, state governments, and hundreds of Malaysian companies.
He expressed gratitude towards the Malaysia Pavilion team for their dedication over the 184 days of operation and extended his appreciation to the Malaysia Secretariat for the Osaka World Expo, as well as Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the former Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry. Fadillah hopes this success will continue to elevate Malaysia's global reputation and prosperity.
The World Expo 2025 Osaka, hosted at Yumeshima Island, Kansai, Japan, was an international event centered on innovation and cooperation.
