Malaysia’s PPI Records Highest Increase in 2026

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 9.2 per cent in June 2026, up from 7.8 per cent in the previous month, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the latest report from DOSM, titled PPI Local Production, June 2026, highlights that this increase is the highest recorded so far this year. All sectors showed growth, with the mining sector experiencing a significant rise.

The mining sector registered an increase of 29.0 per cent, following a 52.6 per cent rise in May 2026. This growth was primarily driven by the crude petroleum extraction index, which increased by 40.7 per cent. Similarly, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector saw an increase of 9.1 per cent, compared to 8.9 per cent in the previous month, bolstered by the fishing and growing of perennial crops indices, which rose 12.5 per cent and 10.8 per cent, respectively.

The manufacturing sector also experienced a notable increase of 7.2 per cent, up from 3.5 per cent in May 2026. This was largely due to higher prices in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, and computer, electronic, and optical products, which rose 30.1 per cent and 8.3 per cent, respectively. Additionally, the water supply and electricity and gas supply sectors increased by 12.7 per cent and 10.2 per cent, respectively.
