Malaysia: Malaysia's IRONMAN ace Teh Kuok Yuen will lead the home challenge at the IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast on July 26 as he returns to the Johor race for the first time since competing in its inaugural edition in 2022.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 39-year-old noted that Desaru Coast has carved out its own identity on the regional triathlon calendar through both its demanding course and athlete-friendly race set-up. "The heat, humidity and rolling hills on the run make this a special course. I also really enjoy how everything is set up close to a wide selection of hotels, which makes race logistics much easier to manage," he said in a statement today. Kuok Yuen added that he hopes to improve on his 2022 result, put together a good race, and enjoy his final season competing in the under-40 category.

Joining Kuok Yuen in the Malaysian line-up are seasoned campaigner Shahrom Abdullah, the fastest Malaysian male in last year's edition, and Yen Chia, who will once again lead the local women's challenge after finishing as the fastest Malaysian female in 2025. Returning champions Jed Radbone of Australia and Ling Er Choo of Singapore are expected to headline another strong international field, while veteran Australian Assad Attamimi returns after finishing on the podium in each of his previous three appearances at Desaru Coast.

For the record, more than 1,200 athletes from 60 countries are expected to compete in this year's Desaru Coast Multisport Festival. International participants will make up approximately 60 percent of the field, which will also serve as a qualifying race for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States, with 50 qualifying slots available across the age-group categories.
