Malaysia’s Global Image Enhanced Through Islam Hadhari Under Tun Abdullah, Says Wan Junaidi

Kuala Lumpur: The late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s implementation of the Islam Hadhari concept notably advanced Malaysia’s reputation as a progressive and moderate Islamic nation on the international stage, according to Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. He noted that during Abdullah’s tenure as Prime Minister, from 2003 to 2009, the introduction of various policies and strategies led to substantial transformations within the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, one of Abdullah’s most impactful contributions was the introduction of Islam Hadhari, which focused on holistic development by integrating spiritual values with physical and material progress. This approach was shared by Wan Junaidi in a condolence message posted on the official Facebook page of Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

Wan Junaidi expressed that Abdullah’s passing represents a significant loss for the nation, as he remembered him as a distinguished statesman who served with dedication, humility, and leadership grounded in noble values. Under Abdullah’s guidance, the principles of good governance, human capital development, and interfaith and interracial harmony were further strengthened. Wan Junaidi emphasized that Abdullah’s modesty, people-centric approach, and thoughtful leadership continue to serve as a model for current and future leaders.

Tun Abdullah passed away at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10 pm, with the news confirmed by his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, through an Instagram post. Born on November 26, 1939, in Bayan Lepas, Penang, Abdullah served as the country’s Prime Minister from October 31, 2003, until April 3, 2009, following the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
