Accra:Budget 2027 is anticipated to bolster income growth through government initiatives to increase wages, implementing a tiered minimum wage structure that targets semi-skilled workers and graduates, as reported by CGS International Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the financial services provider noted that raising the personal income tax threshold is expected to enhance disposable income. Additionally, allocations for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) cash assistance have increased to RM16 billion from RM15 billion in 2026, expanding coverage for more low-income and vulnerable households.
Complementary measures include two RM100 cash transfers for non-STR recipients and a one-time RM1,500 payment to civil servants. The brokerage firm highlighted that while Budget 2027 may appear election-friendly, it addresses ongoing issues related to consumption, wages, and productivity, indicating a stronger focus on enhancing productivity.
For corporations, the budget outlines incentives for investments in machinery, information and communications technology, and automation. Small and medium enterprises are set to benefit from extended accelerated capital allowances, artificial intelligence adoption grants, and better access to financing.
The government has also allocated RM8 billion for technical and vocational education and training, alongside three million training opportunities via the Human Resource Development Corporation, aiming to reduce dependency on low-skilled foreign labor. However, specifics on proposed reforms, such as the carbon tax and institutional changes like limiting the prime minister's tenure and separating powers, remain unclear.
Further clarity is needed on reform priorities under the 13th Malaysia Plan, including the multi-tier foreign worker levy, details of the Progressive Wage Policy, and potential retirement age adjustments.
