Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s automotive sector experienced a significant decline in total industry volume (TIV) in April, falling by 16.8% to 60,527 units compared to March. According to Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), this decrease is attributed to the lengthy Hari Raya break and the substantial festive deliveries that occurred in March.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, The MAA reported that the year-to-date (YTD) TIV was 5.8% lower than the corresponding period in 2024. Despite the monthly drop, the TIV for April 2025 showed a modest increase of 1% year-on-year, with 55,971 passenger vehicles and 4,556 commercial vehicles sold.
In terms of production, April 2025 saw a total of 56,313 units produced, marking a 2% decline from the previous year. This figure included 52,925 passenger vehicles and 3,388 commercial vehicles.
Looking ahead, the MAA anticipates a rebound in May’s TIV, driven by the Kaamatan and Gawai festive celebrations in East Malaysia. “The higher number of working days in May compared to April and the introduction of new models are also expected to increase sales,” it stated.
