Kuala lumpur: Malaysians must be prepared to adopt a modest lifestyle amid global uncertainty as international conflicts begin to exert pressure on the domestic economy. Community Communications Department (J-KOM) strategic adviser Datuk Dr Budiman Mohd Zohdi emphasized the necessity for public preparedness, despite these conflicts not originating within the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the current situation is often described through the 'VUCA' concept, which stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, characterizing the rapid changes and intricacies of the global landscape. Dr. Budiman noted that these elements should guide the public in facing a war that was not caused by them, but whose impact is deeply felt.
Dr. Budiman highlighted the importance of managing personal finances akin to a 'small government' to handle instability. He stressed that while households have income, expenses, and emergency savings, resilience in the face of unforeseen circumstances should be prioritized. He pointed out that, like individuals relying on savings during unexpected events, the country relies on its finances and subsidies, raising concerns about their sustainability.
Dr. Budiman commented on government efforts, mentioning initiatives such as the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) and the Rahmah Basic Contribution (SARA) aimed at alleviating the public's burden and minimizing cost-of-living pressures. He acknowledged that despite the country's strong economic fundamentals, including positive GDP growth, low unemployment, and declining poverty rates, preparedness remains crucial.
He concluded that while the government is attentive to feedback to ensure aid reaches those in need, the people must remain calm and prepared for challenges beyond the government's control.
