Kuala Lumpur: Shopee Malaysia’s Raya 2025 Buyer Trends Study highlights a shift in consumer behaviour, with 98 per cent of Malaysians starting their Aidilfitri purchases as early as the fourth quarter of 2024, reflecting a growing trend of early planning and a strong focus on maximising year-end sales and promotions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shopee Malaysia’s Marketing and Business Intelligence head, Tan Ming Kit, stated that the study conducted among 1,500 Shopee users reveals Malaysian consumers are prioritising strategic planning and budgeting, with 70 per cent aiming to keep their raya expenses below RM500. Among these consumers, half are allocating between RM300 and RM500, with bulk purchases for family gatherings, gifting, and home upgrades being the primary spending drivers. These trends underscore the impact of family size, hosting responsibilities, and cultural traditions on purchasing decisions.

Tan further mentioned that as Malaysians increasingly shop smarter for raya, planning earlier and maximising value, Shopee remains committed to offering a secure and rewarding shopping environment. He highlighted that Shopee’s secure shopping ecosystem, which includes flexible payment options, Shopee Guarantee, and Shopee Mall, continues to be a key factor in building consumer trust, with 75 per cent of respondents expressing confidence in the platform’s ability to provide safe and reliable transactions.

Meanwhile, the remaining 25 per cent of shoppers pointed to product variety, convenience, and community-driven recommendations as key decision-making factors, further underscoring the significance of a trustworthy shopping experience. The study also reveals the growing preference for real-time content, such as Shopee Live and Shopee Video, as a key avenue for discovering raya deals, with four in five Malaysians engaging with these interactive platforms to make informed purchasing decisions.

Additionally, fashion and beauty products are the most purchased items during the festive season, with 70 per cent of shoppers investing in traditional attire, modest wear, footwear, accessories, makeup, and skincare essentials. Meanwhile, 20 per cent are prioritising household items, festive food, and gift hampers, reflecting the cultural importance of hosting and gifting during raya. Shopee’s study also highlights a growing demand for secure and seamless e-commerce experiences, with consumers prioritising reliable sellers, flexible payment options, and platform-wide savings as key factors influencing their Aidilfitri 2025 shopping habits.
