Jakarta: A Malaysian stranded in Jakarta following flight disruptions caused by a volcanic eruption has ensured that the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia is kept informed of her whereabouts at all times.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Siti Murni Abdul Aziz, who is in Indonesia with her husband and a few family members for business purposes, was scheduled to return home on Sept 6 but became stranded after most airports in the country suspended operations.

'My advice is not to rely on information on social media, but to go directly to the authorities and ensure that you report your presence to the embassy. The management handling my flight has also been in constant contact with my husband, providing the latest updates,' she said when contacted during the Reaksi programme titled 'Malaysians stranded following the Anak Krakatau eruption', produced by Bernama Radio today.

Siti Murni, who is expected to return home soon, said she is avoiding land and ferry routes as the movement of volcanic ash had begun to affect airspace in the area. More than 1,000 Malaysians have been affected by flight cancellations and rescheduling in Jakarta following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, which began at 11.07 pm local time last Friday.
