Bangkok: Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian producer of lubricants and transformer insulating oils, signed agreements on Tuesday to expand the reach of its Hyrax Estramol ester transformer fluids into Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hyrax Oil stated in a release that Metson Power (Thailand) Co. Ltd. has been appointed under a distributorship agreement as the preferred distributor of its mineral and ester-based transformer oils and industrial lubricants across the five nations. Additionally, a technical services partnership agreement was signed with Eternity Technology Engineering Co. Ltd., appointing them as the exclusive technical services partner in Thailand. This partnership encompasses transformer retrofilling, engineering support, technical training, and the exchange of engineering experts.
The company emphasized that with increasing demand for cleaner and safer power infrastructure across Southeast Asia, these partnerships will enhance its regional presence while aiding customers in transitioning to biodegradable insulating fluids like its Hyrax Estramol range, supported by local distribution and engineering expertise.
The agreements were formalized at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, with Hyrax Oil represented by its founder and group executive chairman Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin and group chief operating officer Muhamad Lutfi Datuk Mohd Isa. Metson Power's delegation included its founder Mol Chew Poh Soon and managing director Eric Soon Wei Siang, while Eternity Technology Engineering was represented by directors Chaiyanate Niamson and Varanit Tapvong. Malaysia's Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, witnessed the signing ceremony.
Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin described the agreements as a significant milestone for Hyrax Oil, enabling the introduction of its Hyrax Estramol range to Thailand's ester-based transformer oil market while reinforcing its presence in the Greater Mekong subregion. She noted that the collaboration harnesses Metson Power's distribution network and Eternity Technology Engineering's technical expertise, providing not only Malaysian solutions but also the necessary knowledge and support to advance safer and more sustainable power infrastructure across ASEAN.
Beyond environmental benefits, Hazimah highlighted that these partnerships would bolster trade and industrial ties between Malaysia and Thailand. They introduce a new export channel for a higher-value, palm-derived product, adding value to a domestic commodity rather than exporting it in raw form, thereby extending the reach of Malaysian manufacturing in the Greater Mekong subregion.
For Thailand and its neighbouring countries, the collaboration is expected to facilitate technology transfer and enhance local engineering capabilities through Eternity Technology Engineering's team, supporting a more reliable and sustainable power supply crucial for industrial growth and investment in the region.
Founded in Malaysia in 1991, Hyrax Oil produces lubricants and transformer insulating fluids, including its Hyrax Estramol ester fluids, transformer oils, specialty products, and petroleum derivatives. The company has established a presence in over 40 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
